The Hit Mecca Songs story began with a little boy who started playing the saxophone in third grade because it was required, and discovered he had a gift. Who earned a music scholarship to a private high school where he immersed himself in musical genres from jazz to hip hop to showtunes, and later an invitation to study under jazz great Artie Shaw. Who fell in love with music – the human connections it gives us, and the human stories it tells.

Because at Hit Mecca Songs, we publish songs, but we really tell stories. The songs in our catalog were all written, or co-written, and produced by our founder, Alex F. Nesmith, over the course of a decades-long music career built on hard work, late nights, and a little bit of luck. He worked as an engineer alongside artists including Keith Sweat on his quadruple platinum self-titled album, and alongside OutKast on their platinum debut studio album. Throughout these years, he was also chasing his big break moment with songwriting. He knew his songs were good, and he knew that good didn’t guarantee success.

As the music industry shifted from analog to digital, so did Alex’s path. He stepped away from music professionally, but his love of it never changed. He shared it with his kids, who grew up watching him play the grand piano passed down through three generations of their family and learning that music meant safety, comfort, and love.

And then one day a friend called and asked if he’d heard about what people were doing with AI and music. Yeah, he was familiar with people writing songs from a prompt, no effort, no craft behind them. His songs were written by humans, the old fashioned way, over years of work. And yet… he sensed there was something there. In this new era, with this new technology, Hit Mecca Songs could now work within an almost limitless expansion around what is possible with music.

Each song in our catalog has a story, written by human songwriters and produced by Alex into songs whose humanity you can hear in their original studio demos. And now, through a creative medium that wasn’t even dreamed of when Alex first picked up a saxophone, we’re exploring new styles, new sounds, new creative ideas to carry the humanity of these songs into this new era.
